Different Forms of Golf

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Earlier, golf was played with some simple rules like with a golf sticks and golf balls. But now with the advent of modernity, golf is changed as well. Apart from the traditional way of playing golf, there are other forms of golf too such as Skins, Stableford, Team play, Handicap systems etc.

In a skins game, the golfers have to compete on each hole, as a separate contest while in stableford, the player gains points for the scores, achieved on each hole of the round or tournament. The points achieved for each hole of the round is added to make the total points score, and the player with the highest score wins. Team play can be either a foursome or a four-ball. A handicap golf is a numerical measure of an amateur golfer’s ability to play golf over the course of 18 holes. This form of golf can be applied either for stroke play competition or match play competition.

Apart from the various types of golf, there are a number of tournaments for both men and women such as the Masters, the U.S. Open, The Open Championship and the PGA Championship for men while the Kraft Nabisco Championship, the LPGA Championship, the U.S. Women’s Open and the Women’s British Open for women. Besides, there are championships for seniors as well like the Senior PGA Championship, the United States Senior Open, the Senior British Open Championship, The Tradition and the Senior Players Championship, which have made golf so popular.

Exciting Super Bowl Games

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

I adore football and soccer, but I’m sure that not everybody does. What I find fantastic is that there are some that may not watch one single regular season game, but they then tune in for the playoffs and the Super Bowl. Some only watch the championship game yearly, but ignore soccer the remainder of the year. The explanations for this is going to be easy and comical too. We like competition, and we like a big vision. This game is something which has both in spades. I watch soccer throughout the year, but I’m really not always interested by the Super Bowl. For many like me, we may watch it, but something is lost if we do not care much about either of the teams concerned. However, if a team is hated, we will cheer for the other team, and that may put some excitement back in the game. The day of the game nearly becomes its own vacation.

On the opposite side of the coin, those that love sports but do not care much for soccer will like the Super Bowl regardless of who is playing. They may not care who is playing, they just wish to see some good competition going on.

The opposite side of the Super Bowl is the fellowship and the party. Nearly everyone watching will either go to or host a party on that Sunday. Most gather for the game, but some will just tag along for the fun, and to have a first peek at some of the commercials that air for the first time on that day.

Those alone have changed into a convention, and are debated nearly as much as the game itself.
